Matt Powell’s favorite game as a child was SimCity. He spent a lot of time designing and operating virtual cities and learning about real concepts that effect quality of life. At the same time, he was fortunate enough to be growing up in a city that demonstrated real interest in community events, shared experiences, and citizen-oriented amenities. The seeds were planted.

Later in life, Matt ran for City Council in Cedar Park, Texas. He began his service as a City Councilmember in 2005, and was later elected Mayor of Cedar Park in 2012. During his tenure, Cedar Park was one of the fastest growing cities in the U.S., all while consistently earning awards for livability, community, and economic development. After 13 years of service and experience, Matt founded Powell Municipal to focus on his passion for developing quality of life in cities across Texas.
